Authentic Leadership with lots of courage and getting to know new cultures
After lunch on Monday, the focus shifted from the group to the individual. In their session on authentic leadership, Dries and Lisa invited participants to reflect on themselves as leaders. What does it mean to set the example? How do your values translate into daily behaviour? The presentation encouraged students to lead not through authority, but through integrity and consistency — understanding that credibility within a group starts with authenticity.
The final presentation of the day, delivered by Luke and Nora, challenged participants to step outside their comfort zones. Search for Opportunities and Take Risks explored how leaders identify possibilities, assess potential consequences, and make thoughtful yet courageous decisions. Risk-taking was framed not as recklessness, but as a deliberate and strategic part of leadership growth.
In the evening, the programme shifted from theory to cultural exchange. Participants were immersed in the diverse backgrounds represented at ISLI, as regents introduced their home countries through customs, symbols, and — naturally — traditional sweets. It was a lively and enriching experience that highlighted the international character of the conference.
The day concluded with interest groups, offering something for everyone: debate and opinion-forming sessions for those eager to sharpen their voice, alongside lighter activities such as game night and improvisation.
Finally, during the daily wrap-up, participants shared feedback with the regents — a reminder that at ISLI, leadership is not only taught, but continuously refined together.
